Most recreational fishers would agree that the current Fisheries Act does not support the vision of a vibrant, responsive and sustainable recreational fishery therefore should be updated to reflect the values of all sectors and not just from a primary production perspective. Recreational fishing, as well as traditional owners and the conservation sector need to be recognized equally as stakeholders within Queensland Fisheries. Whilst their respective share of individual fisheries will vary they are no less important than the commercial fishers and it is well past time that this is recognized and enacted by all levels of Fisheries governance and management.
