Maritime Safety Queensland, along with Queensland port authorities and the Department of Environment and Resource Management, jointly operate the tide gauge network around the Queensland coast. The network records the movement of the tide and storm surge events. Maritime Safety Queensland coordinates the validation and archiving of tidal (sea level) readings from all Queensland ports, which are used as the basis of the official tide predictions for standard and secondary ports in Queensland.
